- Curious about the Shokz OPENRUN PRO?
- What’s the difference between the OPENMOVE and the OPENRUN PRO?
- Looking for a solid pair of headphones for running or jogging?
“I’m thinking about buying the OPENRUN PRO, but I can’t quite tell how it stacks up against the other models.” If that sounds like you, you’re not alone.
I’m a recreational runner who took up the sport as an adult. I run around 500km a month and train with a competitive mindset.
I always wear headphones when I run — usually listening to YouTube videos or music in the background.
Here I’ll walk through Shokz’s bone-conduction headphones, the OPENRUN PRO.
I’ll cover how it feels for both running and everyday use. I also own the entry-level OPENMOVE, so I can compare the two in detail.
By the end of this review, you’ll know what sets the OPENRUN PRO apart from the other models, how it fits, and whether it’s worth buying.
My own take: “Choose the OPENRUN PRO if sound quality matters to you. If it doesn’t, the regular OPENRUN is more than enough.”
- If you’ll also wear it in daily life, go with the OPENRUN or OPENRUN PRO
- If sound quality matters to you, the OPENRUN PRO is worth it
- After a year and a half, my unit’s frame broke and became unusable

Built for Comfort During Long Workouts
I interviewed a Shokz representative for this review.
The OPENMOVE and the OPENRUN/OPENRUN PRO are built around different concepts.
The OPENMOVE is designed mainly for everyday life — commuting, running errands, casual outdoor activities like light jogging.
The OPENRUN and OPENRUN PRO, on the other hand, are built to stay comfortable through long workouts like running.
With that in mind, they’re made from full titanium, designed not to shift even during intense movement.
A Comfortable Fit With No Irritation Above the Ear
I’d say the biggest difference between the OPENMOVE and the OPENRUN PRO comes down to fit.

As the photo shows, the OPENMOVE and OPENRUN PRO have different base shapes, which makes a noticeable difference in how they sit above the ear.
If you’re only using them during a run, the sessions are short enough that it’s not much of an issue.
But if you’re also wearing them for daily life or working from home, you’ll have them on for much longer, so comfort matters a lot more.
My personal take: if you’ll use them for both sports and everyday life, go with the OPENRUN or the OPENRUN PRO.
I wore the OPENMOVE through long video calls and felt significant irritation above the ear.
With the OPENRUN PRO, though, I didn’t notice any discomfort even after 8 hours of wear.
Pros of the OPENRUN PRO
Here’s what stood out to me about the OPENRUN PRO.
Excellent Sound Quality: OPENRUN vs OPENRUN PRO
The OPENRUN PRO uses 9th-generation bone-conduction technology.
First off, comparing the OPENRUN PRO to the OPENMOVE, the OPENRUN PRO’s sound is clearly better. It’s not just the bass — everything comes through more clearly.
What I really wanted to know was how the OPENRUN compares to the OPENRUN PRO.
I own the OPENRUN PRO myself, and I borrowed my brother-in-law’s OPENRUN to do a side-by-side listening comparison.

The OPENRUN and OPENRUN PRO have clearly different sound signatures.
The OPENRUN PRO sounds clearer, with a crisp, well-defined low end.
Honestly, if sound quality matters to you, the OPENRUN PRO is worth the upgrade.
Fast Charging: 5 Minutes for 1.5 Hours of Use
The OPENRUN PRO gives you 1.5 hours of playback from just 5 minutes of charging. I genuinely think this is impressive engineering.
The OPENRUN PRO’s fast charging really comes in handy in situations like these.
- Your next meeting is starting soon and the battery is about to die
- You’re about to head out for a run and notice the battery is low
When you’re wearing them throughout the day, you’d be surprised how often the battery runs low. That’s when fast charging really earns its keep.
Cons of the OPENRUN PRO
Here are the downsides of the OPENRUN PRO.
The Charging Cable Uses a Proprietary Connector
Probably to enable fast charging, the charging cable is a proprietary type (shared between the OPENRUN and OPENRUN PRO).

The OPENMOVE used a standard USB-C cable, so I could share cables with other devices.
This is the one real downgrade compared to the OPENMOVE.
The Price Is High
The OPENRUN PRO costs more than ¥20,000. The OPENRUN, by comparison, runs under ¥20,000, and the OPENMOVE can be found for under ¥10,000 during sales.
If you’ll only use it while running, spending over ¥20,000 on the OPENRUN PRO may not make much sense.
Who Should Buy the OPENRUN PRO
Based on everything above, here’s who I think should buy the OPENRUN PRO:
“Anyone who wants great sound and plans to use it for both sports and everyday life.”
I used the OPENMOVE for a long time, but honestly, I never wanted to wear it for daily life or work.
The OPENRUN PRO, though, is comfortable and capable enough that I actually want to wear it in everyday life.
I used to switch between AirPods and the OPENMOVE, but this has me thinking, “Maybe I can just settle on the OPENRUN PRO for everything.”
Follow-Up: The Frame Broke and Became Unusable
After about a year and a half of use, the frame on my OPENRUN PRO cracked and became unusable.

I never imagined this was where it would break.
Once this part of the frame cracks, it can no longer stay secured on your ear, which effectively makes it unusable.
I’ll admit I used it frequently — running, video calls, and so on — but the frame’s durability felt lower than I expected. Breaking down in such a short time makes it hard to recommend a repeat purchase, no matter how good the sound is.
Handling it more carefully would probably have prevented the damage.
Where to Buy the OPENRUN PRO
You can pick up the OPENRUN PRO through the links below. If you’d rather go with the newer model, the OPENRUN PRO 2 adds DualPitch™ dual-driver sound and a longer battery life — see the official link for that as well.
Hopefully this review helps you decide. Thanks for reading.
